Sanigar Events will stage Frome's first ever night of professional boxing this summer on June 30th with 'Against The Grain' at The Cheese and Grain Hall, Market Yard, Justice Lane.
The event will headline with Frome's undefeated super-featherweight hero Ryan Wheeler in an eight round contest, boxing for the first time in front of his home crowd. Ryan has been known to bring over 100 fans to nearby Bristol to watch him compete and is excited about the prospect of fighting in his own backyard. His current record stands at 8 wins, 1 draw and 0 losses and Ryan holds big plans for championship titles in the future.
"It is great to be able to bring boxing into Frome, it is a small town but has a great community and I hope that we can put on a fantastic show for all of the fans. It has been a dream of mine to have a show here since I turned professional, let's hope that I perform and make this the first of many."
Joining Ryan on the fight card will be an undefeated trio of boxers from Taunton, Weston Super Mare and Torquay. Light Heavyweight prospect Pawel August continues to learn his trade and the Polish native will be keen to add a third win to his impressive record since turning pro last November. Fellow Light heavyweight Rob Boardman from Weston returns to the ring for the first time since his sensational TKO win over popular Bristol banger Ricky Pow which saw him elevated into the top 10 British ratings. Boardman had taken time away from the sport to concentrate on his first child but now has the bit between his teeth and wants to get to the top with a 'fight anyone' approach.
Completing the line up will be Torquay's Nathan Halton who made his successful debut at Ashton Gate stadium against veteran Jamie Ambler in March of this year. Halton is happy to travel and get the experience of boxing away from home.
"I am pleased to be boxing again before the summer break, at this early stage of my career it is about gaining experiences and learning. I will do my best to put on a good show for the Frome fans and hopefully I can build my fan base as well."
